Welcome to The Skin Diary, where science meets simplicity to bring you truly transformative skincare. The Skin Diary is a dermatologist-led skincare brand built on effective, easy-to-follow and science-backed formulas designed to reverse sun damage and promote skin longevity.
Our brand story is one of truth and commitment. Born from the vision of our founder, Dr. Clare Kiely a renowned consultant dermatologist in London specialising in skin ageing and skin cancer. Her interest with skincare science grew over 15 years of studying the skin, culminating in a masters degree in skin ageing. Armed with years of research and clinical experience, Dr. Kiely felt frustrated by the abundance of pseudoscience in the industry and the lack of simple but effective routines that people would stick with and see results from.
Determined to provide a solution, she embarked on a mission alongside Professor Chris Griffiths OBE, Dr. Richard Barlow and Dr. Tamara Griffiths to redefine at-home skincare and advice as we know it.

Retinoids – Topical vitamin A derivatives (in the form of retinoids and retinols) are considered the gold-standard for skin rejuvenation (as researchers, trust us on this one), which is why prescription tretinoin is a core part of our regimen. It’s a key ingredient when it comes to skin longevity for its ability to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It comes in a cream formula and is applied at night.
L-Ascorbic acid – L-Ascorbic acid is a pure form of vitamin C and a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants are scavengers of free radicals. Free radicals are over excited molecules caused by UV exposure that damage any other molecules they come in contact with. In turn, this helps brighten, smooth and give sunscreen added protection. It’s typically in the form of a serum and is applied in the morning before your SPF.
Azelaic acid -Azelaic acid acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant. This multi-talented ingredient — we use prescription-grade for optimal efficacy — reduces inflammation and redness, unclogs pores and regulates sebum production. Plus, it helps improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation such as melasma and dark spots caused by sun damage. This can be used morning or night and is used before moisturiser and SPF.
Niacinamide – A versatile vitamin working to increase production of ceramides, niacinamide is an essential component to a healthy skin barrier function (basically keeping the bad stuff out and the good stuff in). It helps improve hydration, reduce the appearance and fine lines and wrinkles and lessen hyperpigmentation. Niacinamide is a serum formula and used ahead of moisturiser in your routine.
Hyaluronic acid – Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that plays a vital role in keeping skin hydrated and plump. The inclusion of hyaluronic acid in the formula restores this natural molecule to boost moisture in the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s a brilliant dry skin saviour. Hyaluronic acid is also a serum formula and used on damp skin after cleansing and before your moisturiser.
First and foremost, don’t go out seeking a tan, sit in the shade when you can, wear a hat and sunglasses. Choose a sunscreen for your face that you like enough to wear daily. Next is using enough sunscreen (1/2 teaspoon (face, neck, ears, hairline and temples) to achieve the protection factor. Many people only use ¼ or ½ the recommended dose of SPF so bear this in mind; however, any steps you take to increase sun safety reduces your lifelong cumulative dose of UV.
