What to expect from your skincare

You’re not alone in wanting that quick miracle ‘fix’ to your skin woes.
Skincare geared towards skin health with results that truly work long-term is a long game.
Many of the instant results from skincare we see online are exactly that, instant gratification that isn’t positively impacting the skin on a cellular level for long-term benefits.
At The Skin Diary, we focus on maximising skin health through measurable, biological changes, which occur through using the right products for a consistent period of time.
We want to help you manage expectations while encouraging skin habits that will make a visible difference to the skin over time.
Why your results aren’t instant
Our dermatologists regularly see patients give up using a skincare product in just a couple of weeks if they aren’t seeing results. This is where patience and consistency become your biggest advantage.
Many of the changes are already happening to your skin (you just can’t see them yet) and like all healthy habits, consistency and the compounding impact of these habits yield the best results.
Some skincare brands include ingredients that give instant gratification, such as light-reflecting ingredients for added glow, that don’t impact the skin at a cellular level, but instead make the skin look nice.
We focus on what’s happening beneath the surface to ensure measurable results long-term.
What topicals cannot do
Topical skincare is crucial to maintaining healthy skin. It can prevent and repair cells with consistent use. However, it has limits to its capabilities.
Deep-set wrinkles
Unfortunately, no topical can dramatically reverse deep wrinkles. Night Repair Therapy is proven to increase collagen and fibrillin (the skin’s scaffolding), but it cannot influence structure at such depth.
Lift the skin
In the same way, topicals cannot lift the skin dramatically.
The key to both of these is prevention. UV exposure degrades our precious collagen and fibrillin so protecting this and repairing it as soon as possible — consistently — is key.
A realistic timeline of skincare expectations
1 week
After one week of using the Ultimate Skin Ageing Duo, you’ll notice that your skin is more supple and hydrated. Skin feels fresher, but all the changes — antioxidants neutralising free radicals, SPF protected harmful UV and retinoids getting to work on cell turnover — are happening beneath the skin.
1 month
You may notice your skin texture refining and dullness disappearing, making way for a more radiant appearance. Stay patient, you may not see change in fine lines just yet.
3 months
Provided you’ve stuck to your AM and PM routine and consistently used both products, you’ll start to see improvement in fine lines and wrinkles, skin may feel smoother and overall fresher.
6 months
You’ve followed the rules to a T and the benefits are paying off. Your skin barrier is stronger (less irritation, redness and dullness), your fine lines and overall texture is softening thanks to collagen production and your skin not only looks visibly healthier, but feels it too.
1 year and beyond
The reason for consistency beyond visible results is that you’re preventing future damage from occurring. Present you is helping future you from damage that’s not been able to pass through thanks to diligent sunscreen and DNA repair enzyme use.
The peptides, retinoids and antioxidants work as a power trio to neutralise damage that sneaks in and repair cells from existing damage.
Caring for your skin barrier through fatty acids means it’ll feel softer and look well-cared for.
Great skin doesn’t come from dramatic instant results, but rather slow, meaningful changes that make a visible difference through consistency over time.
The duo mean you’re protecting future damage while addressing present damage.
