Gene Expression Study
The Process
A total of five genes were selected for the expression studies, in addition to one control ‘house-keeping’ gene (GAPDH). The five genes were MMP1, PTGES and the senescence markers p21, p16 and GLB1. The expression levels of the five genes were normalised to the housekeeping gene GAPDH to give fold change values.
The Purpose
To determine the effects of a physiological dose of solar UV irradiation on gene expression in 3D full thickness living human skin models with and without Age Defence.

Clinical Trial
The Process
Testing was conducted in two phases to assess both hydration and sun protection. The hydration assessment was an open, intra-individual clinical study involving 30 healthy volunteers. The product was applied to the subjects, and skin hydration was tracked using a highly sensitive Moisture Meter SC. Measurements were taken before application, immediately after, and at 8, 12, and 24-hour intervals to track sustained moisture. Separately, the sun protection capabilities were tested in vitro using specialized ultraviolet transmittance analyzers to measure how effectively the formula absorbs and blocks UVA and UVB rays.
The Purpose
The studies aimed to prove that the formula measurably moisturises the skin under clinical assessment while delivering reliable, broad-spectrum sun protection. By rigorously evaluating these skin properties under controlled conditions, the trials ensure the product provides genuine, documented benefits.
The Results
In the moisturisation study, 90% of subjects experienced an immediate increase in skin moisture , demonstrating a 60.8% improvement right after application. The formula also provided long-lasting hydration, significantly improving skin moisturisation for a full 24 hours, including a 22.3% improvement maintained at the 12-hour mark. Furthermore, the UV transmittance analysis confirmed that the cream achieves an in vivo SPF of 50 and officially passes the standards for broad-spectrum protection.
