Are Too Many Young People Getting Botox? Dr Clare Joins Claire Byrne on Newstalk

Dr Clare recently joined Claire Byrne on Newstalk to discuss the growing popularity of preventative Botox and why she believes people in their 20s are turning to cosmetic treatments unnecessarily.

As a Consultant Dermatologist, Dermatological and Laser Surgeon, and founder of The Skin Diary, Dr Kiely shared her perspective on the increasing pressure on younger generations to prevent the signs of ageing before they even appear.

While acknowledging the benefits of Botox when used appropriately, Dr Kiely questioned its growing popularity among younger people, describing Botox in your 20s as a waste of money.

“The reason people in their 40s and above are having it is to kind of stave off those signs of aging, that they just want to slow down and look as young as they feel, basically.

“But if you're having it in your 20s, you're having it to basically freeze your normal expression lines.

“The normal creases around the eyes when you smile, when you frown, all of those little bits of facial dynamics of how we communicate is so important and they just don't need it.”

The conversation highlights the importance of making informed decisions about aesthetic treatments, understanding when they are genuinely beneficial, and taking an evidence-based approach to skin ageing.
